What is EV Charging Stations?

An electric vehicle charging station is also known as an EV charging station, electric recharging point, charging point, charge point, ECS (electronic charging station), and EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment). It is an infrastructure that supplies electric energy to recharge an EV.

You can charge an EV either at home, work or at some EV public charging stations or points. There are different types of charging stations, they are Rapid, Fast and Slow.

  • Rapid,
  • Fast
  • Slow

Rapid Chargers

Rapid chargers are one of the two types AC or DC (Alternating or Direct Current), Rapid AC chargers are 43 kW, most Rapid DC units are at least 50 kW.

Both charges 80% of electric vehicles in just 30-60 minutes depending on the battery capacity.

Fast Chargers

Fast chargers provide the power from 7 kW to 22 kW which charges the electric vehicle fully in 3-4 hours.

Slow Chargers

Slow chargers are for up to 3 kW, this charger is perfect for charging an EV overnight which takes between 6 and 12 hours for complete EV and for PHEV it will take 2-4 hours.

Charging

Rapid AC devices use a tethered Type 2 connector, and Rapid DC chargers are fitted with a CCS, CHAdeMO or Tesla Type 2.

Common fast connectors are a tethered Type 1 or a Type 2 socket Connecting a connector cable to an EV to supply the electric energy.

Slow chargers charges in slow devices and uses a cable which connects an eV to a 3-pin or Type 2 socket.
