The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) government decided to add 30 electric buses in it’s capital’s fleet. Tata Motors had already supplied 100 electric buses to the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (J&KSRTC) and more 30 are to be supplied very soon for its pilot project.

J&K to add 30 electric buses in Srinagar’s fleet

The electric buses deployment comes under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme of the government.

30 new electric buses in Srinagar 

The deputy commissioner, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said through his tweet that its the small beginning, more 30 new electric buses soon will hit the roads of Srinagar and many more. The routes will be alloted by RTA next week and asked for the suggestions.

These electric buses can be driven for 150 km in a single charge. 18 buses have been transported and are stationed at Qazigund, 80 Km from Srinagar.

Tata Motors won the bid for electric buses 

Tata Motors won the bid in accordance with Make in India program. The charging infrastructure is been planned to charge the electric buses. There will be 6 charging stations set up, 3 in Jammu and 3 in Srinagar.

Two charging stations installed

20 buses will be deployed in Srinagar. Currently, there are two charging stations installed one at Jammu and one in Srinagar. Remaining four will be installed shortly.

Electric buses come under fast charging category

The buses fall under the ‘fast charging’ category and each bus can carry 50 passengers at a time.

Government invited EOI  to States 

The government is initiating to electrify the public and shared transportation for which it had also invited the EOI ( Expressions of interest) to States to deploy 5,000 electric buses.
