Tesla and China government

The Chinese government has ordered some of its government personnel to avoid Tesla cars. These people belong to the category of higher-level military authorities and employees of few state-owned firms. As soon as this news took over the media, Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to the issue. So, let’s know what actually happened between Tesla and China government.

China’s concerns

There’s a circulation of news that mentions the security check for Tesla vehicles by the Chinese government due to safety concerns. After analysis, the Chinese authorities conclude that Tesla’s cameras might be a possible threat if misused. So, China considers it as a security risk because of using these cars in sensitive areas of Government agencies. Also, the information about these Tesla owners and their contacts on their phone seems to be a concern for the Chinese Government.

We cannot call it a total ban because of various news from multiple sources. Some of the news mentions that these cars have to be left outside while entering sensitive areas. While other sources say that these cameras can monitor the officials in their neighborhoods so these cars cannot be used. Overall, the biggest reason was that this sensitive information can be transferred to other countries which are not in good relation with China.

Elon Musk’s response

Elon musk mentions that Tesla no intentions to misuse the cameras of cars to record something beyond the requirement. He also indicates that the purpose of cameras is only for future autonomous driving improvement, road safety, and tesla’s upcoming shared mobility program.

In addition to these statements he also mentions that they would be out of business if Tesla had such plans for any country.

Conclusion

Tesla is probably the only international competitor for the local market for china which is the biggest in the world. Tesla is also a successful foreign company operating in China’s Electric car space with 30% of its sales from china. So, this is believed as a problem by a few because of ongoing issues between the two countries.
