The Government targets to achieve 7 million sales of hybrid and EVs by 2020 under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) announced the Parliament on Monday.

The NEMMP 2020 is a mission document which provides the vision and the roadmap for the faster adoption of electric vehicles and their manufacturing FAME in India.
The plan focuses on national fuel security and offers affordable and eco-friendly transportation and to make India globally a manufacturing hub and manufacturing leader of EVs.
Union Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Union Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Arvind Sawant said, “Under the NEMMP 2020, there is an ambitious target to achieve 6-7 million sales of hybrid and electric vehicles by the year 2020.”
India needs the required amount of charging stations to fulfill the said target which is being addressed presently in the Phase-II of FAME Scheme he added.
As recently, the government announced that will support public & shared transportation electrification under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) Scheme for the next three years.
Ashok Leyland ready with EVs strategy
The second largest popular commercial vehicle manufacturer in India, Ashok Leyland is all set with its electric vehicle strategy even when it is preparing its entire model line to shift to BS VI emission norms from 1,2020 said chairman Dheeraj G Hinduja.
In the company’s Annual Report for 2018-19, the Hinduja said, “Our electric vehicle strategy and roll out plan is in shape. A competent team has been put in place to pursue this thrust area vigorously.”
The company bagged its first major electric bus order for the supply of 50 buses to the Ahmedabad Bus Rapid Transit System.
