To push the eco-friendly travel, Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) will deploy 15 electric buses in the city under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles) scheme.

The trial for the electric buses is expected to start from June 22. The electric bus will have a seating capacity of 31 passengers.
15 electric buses, a central government initiative
Chief Engineer Balidan Das said, “We have got 15 electric buses. It’s a central government’s initiative. The buses will ply on the roads after a trial run.”
Electric buses will launch by ASTC on Kachari-Kamakhya
The buses that obtain by the ASTC will launch on Kachari-Kamakhya route and will make 5 to 6 trips per day. Two buses will run on two different routes from ISBT and Paltan Bazar.

Anand Prakash Tiwari, Managing Director (MD) said, “Government of India is trying to bring emission-free transport as soon as possible. Buses will be operational likely within this month, they will be emission free. The phase operation will start from Kamakhya temple.”
Electric buses will run in three routes
The buses will operate on different routes which are planned by ASTC. The routes are decided by them is from Kachari to Kamakhya which will cover a distance of 6.4 kilometers, the second route is from Paltan Bazar to airport which will run for a distance of 25 kilometers and the third route will be covering a distance of about 38 km from ISBT, Khanapara, Ganeshguri, Paltan Bazar, Maligaon and back to ISBT.
