The wait is over! The most popular British brand MG Motor ( Morris Garages) is all set to launch its first electric SUV in India on January 27th. It will be a completely knocked down (CKD) product after its launch. So let us see MG ZS EV launching in India. 




It was first unveiled on December 5 and the bookings of this electric car already started from December 21 with an amount of Rs 50,000. The bookings will close on January 17 you still have a chance to grab your hands on this electric SUV. It can be booked on the company website or in selected showrooms.

MG ZS EV features

Looking at its exteriors, the compact electric SUV gets an aggressive look and decent proportions. It has a sporting bold diamond finished grille. 4314 mm long,1809 mm wide and 1620 mm tall. It has 2579 mm of space between its wheel. LED headlights, LED DRLS, keyless entry, panoramic sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels, swooping bonnet, curved roofline. The rear gets LED taillamps below the raked windscreen.

Coming to the interiors, the cabin is finished in black, so people who are obsessed with black, this will be your great option! On the dash, there are silver inserts, door pads. An 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, climate control, a PM2.5 air filter, a flat bottomed steering wheel, USB mobile charging function at the front and rear, Bluetooth functionality and a rearview parking camera. 

There is Apple Carplay and Android Auto. It is equipped with I Smart EV 2.0 connected car technology from which it is said to be a connected car.

MG ZS EV specifications 

MG ZS EV is powered by a synchronous motor that gives 141 bhp and produces 353 Nm of peak torque. It is equipped with a 44.5 kWh battery pack which provides a range of 300 km on a single charge. It accelerates 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and it gives a top speed of 140 km/h. 

Its lithium-ion battery can be charged up to 80 per cent in 40 minutes with the help of a 50 kW DC charger. It takes seven hours to charge it with a standard 7 kW charger. It is IP67 certified which means it is water and dustproof.

Availability of MG ZS EV




It will be available in five cities initially such as Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru and later on in other cities. They are offering a special complimentary price for the first 1000 customers.

MG ZS EV charging facilities 

Each ZS EV comprises an onboard cable to charge at any 15 amp socket. The company will also install an AC fast charger at home or office of the customers. The company is also setting up a DC Super-Fast charging network at selected MG showrooms which will be available 24×7.

The carmaker plans to build an extended charging network across MG dealerships in select satellite cities along key routes and provide charge-on-the-go with RSA (roadside assistance).

The company will also offer the ‘eShield’ ownership package which gives free-of-charge 5-year manufacturer warranty for unlimited kilometres on the car and 8 years/1.5 lakh km warranty on the battery.

It is also providing round-the-clock roadside assistance (RSA) for a period of 5 years, for privately registered cars. The company is claiming that the running cost of the ZS EV is approximately Rs 1/km.

You need not worry about charging, the company is setting up a wall box charger at the buyer’s house. However, they will not have options of fast charging setup that above mentioned cities will get.

MG Motor India is also setting up a 5-step charging ecosystem to fulfil the needs of EV customer. The company is also working towards assuring that the MG ZS EV’s battery is re-used and disposed of properly.

Safety tested

This electric SUV can be said to be a safety car as it has recently received a 5-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP crash test for frontal, frontal-offset, and side collision. The body of the car is completely stable.




ZS EV running cost

The company is claiming that the running cost of the ZS EV is approximately Rs 1/km. Its expected price is between Rs.22 to 25 lakh.
