Uganda is so common in vehicle production, Volkswagen is already assembling EVs in Kigali, the capital of neighbouring Rwanda and is mobility pilots.  Kiira supports the EV plant that comes from the Chinese manufacturer CHTC Motor. It is already constructing a plant in Jinja, close to the capital Kampala. It aims to localise 90% of the required components. The Ugandan steel, lithium and copper are to help make the electric buses.

The team has also produced a Kiira EV which is a two-passenger prototype and it is designed and built-in Africa back in 2011 as a PHEV.

The new plant will focus on producing electric buses for the public and private transit companies. Kiira says that the global market for e-buses has grown from about 100,000 units in 2016 to 500,000 in 2019 with Chinese manufacturers. Kiira Motors aims to produce EVs made in Uganda to reduce air pollution in Kampala which is one of the most polluted cities in the world and other major cities in the East African country.

North Africa’s Algeria seeks investors for its first electric car project

The first electric car 100% made in Algeria will be soon launching in the world market of electric vehicles. It is made by Oussama Touaba and wants to popularise his prototype in the national and international markets.

The launch of this electric vehicle will be possible in large-scale production. This small electric car for urban traffic with estimated unit production costs 700,000 Algerian dinars (just under 4,800 euros).

The prototype electric car is protected by a patent received from the National Institute of Industrial Property (Inapi). Now let us look into its features and specifications. This small electric car is 2.5 metres long and has a seating capacity of two including the driver on board. Its body structure is entirely made of aluminium which makes it extremely light, giving it a featherweight of only 200 kilograms.
