Joe Ben Bevirt is the founder and CEO of Joby Aviation. It is a transportation company that is designing and manufacturing an all-electric, vertical take-off and landing aircraft which are going to operate as a commercial passenger service starting in 2024. In order to make this possible, they have spent more than 10 years in the design of five-seat pilot aircraft which will make clean, quiet, and fast air travel. In everyday reality, it will be practical for journeys of five to 150 miles.
Technical overview
The eVTOL aircraft has a range of 150+ nautical miles or 172 including the onboard reserve. The maximum cruising speed of the aircraft is 175 knots/200 miles per hour. During flight operations, the noise from the aircraft is 65 dBA at ~110 yards / 100 meters while it is hovering. The Gross Weight of the aircraft is 4,800 pounds and the seating capacity is for 5 including the pilot. It has a total of 6 tiltable dual-redundant electric motors in which 4 motors will be on wings and 2 motors on the aircraft tail.
