Future of electric vehicles in India

The initial stages of the automotive industry developments will date back to the 1900s era. The development of electric vehicles is simultaneous with the IC engine in those days. This is due to the early stages of developments and the public perspective of automobile affordability. Electric vehicles were out of this race because of battery weight and charging time which made them unreliable. But now it’s an upside-down scenario because things are changing for the future of electric vehicles in India and the world because of the factors mentioned below.

1)Manufacturing

It’s obvious that startups are leading the change in India. Today, companies like Tork motors and few other startups are trying to bring back EVs for everyone. A few startups are manufacturing electric motors and battery packs in India which helps to reduce the imports and support the EV startup ecosystem. Auto majors in India are aware of this change and making efforts to adapt to electrification. Companies like Tata group are a perfect example because they are in the development of EVs and also lithium battery tech simultaneously. We cannot ignore other auto majors in India who are also supporting EVs by experimenting with EVs and investing in promising EV startups.

2)Battery tech

The battery tech is the biggest hurdle on EVs path. With the time-consuming process of recharging the battery, a few companies were looking for Fuel cells. Fuel cells too have their own set of drawbacks such as hydrogen production and refuel network. On the other hand, a few enthusiastic startups were developing non-toxic chemical composition batteries in India which will a game-changer to solve this problem.

3)Renewable Energy

Criticism, the important and most often trouble for mass adaption of EV. People often question EV buyers because they believe that it doesn’t make sense to burn fossil fuel for electricity production. But they fail to realize the fact that Germany was able to produce electricity more than required.

The problem of renewable energy is storage and we can overcome this problem by directing extra renewable energy to EVs. This is a mutual benefit and a chance to escape criticism if you are still worried.
