The all-electric luxury SUV Mercedes-Benz EQC has officially launched in India at an introductory price of Rs 99.30 lakh. This is the first product under the brand Mercedes-Benz EQ which is available in six cities in phase 1-Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Hyderabad.
The luxury electric SUV is powered by an 80 kWh lithium-ion battery with a range of 445-471 km on a single charge. The company claims that the EQC has a power consumption of 20.8-19.7 kWh/100 km.

Before the launch of the EQC, the most expensive electric vehicle was the Hyundai Kona Electric which is priced at sub 25 lakh mark and the MG ZS EV comes with Rs 23,58,000 for its exclusive version.

Mercedes-Benz EQC is equipped with a powerful battery of 80 kWh lithium-ion battery and Kona comes with a battery pack of 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery.
Power
The Mercedes-Benz EQC comes with a power of 408hp and Hyundai Kona comes with 136 PS.
Acceleration
Mercedes-Benz EQC can accelerate 0-100 km/hr in 5.1 seconds and Kona Electric accelerates 0-100km/h in 9.7 secs.
Top speed
Mercedes-Benz EQC top speed is 180 km/h and Hyundai Kona Electric’s top speed is 167km/h.
Charging time
The EQC can be charged in around 11 hours and its fast charging time is 90 minutes. The Hyundai Kona takes 6 hours 10 mins to charge fully and with DC fast charging it charges 0-80% in 57 mins.
Torque
The EQC produces a 765 Nm of torque whereas the Kona Electric gives a torque of 395 NM.

Slightly misleading, Hyundai quotes ARAI range for Kona, the variation can be up to 30% – which means in the real world, the Kona can travel approximately 316 km before running out of charge.
While Mercedes quotes NEDC range where there will be no variation – which means the EQC can travel any where between 444 to 475 as quoted in the article.
EQC has 2 motors in each axle, there by making it a 4wd, while Kona has a single motor driving the front axle.
The Kona is a very good ev in its own right, but it should not have been compared to the EQC which is positioned in a different segment altogether.
