BHEL invites tenders for global OEMs to set up

facilities in India

Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) the India’s largest power equipment manufacturer has issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) to invite global companies to partner and leverage its facilities and capabilities for setting up a manufacturing base in the country.

BHEL invites tenders for global OEMs

“The ongoing economic disruption across the world due to Covid-19 has highlighted the dangers of manufacturing activities being concentrated in a single location and thrown up the need for diversification of supply chains and manufacturing,” the company said in a statement.

This initiative is under the ‘Make in India.’ The BHEL has a total manpower strength of about 34,000 including 9,000 engineers. This will promote Make in India and support international companies to set up manufacturing facilities in the country.

Manufacturing and technology partnerships with global OEMs

The scope of work includes manufacturing and technology partnerships with global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) who are looking for an opportunity to establish or expand their supply chains or manufacturing base in India. It also includes the manufacture of various goods, including heavy electrical equipment, process project equipment, and solar value chain.

Some of the possible areas of partnership can be the heavy electrical equipment, project, and transportation equipment, silicon to module solar value chain, and setting up of up to 5 MW capacity of Li-Ion cell manufacturing facility for all types of electric vehicles and energy storage.

Last year, the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) installed a solar-based Electric Vehicle Chargers (SEVC) on the Delhi-Chandigarh Highway. 5 charging stations installed in the series and inaugurated by Sh. Arvind Ganpat Sawant, Hon’ble Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

These charging stations are installed at the resorts of Haryana Tourism Corporation Ltd. at Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, and Samalkha (Sonepat) on Delhi-Chandigarh highway. During the inauguration, senior officials of DHI, BHEL and Haryana Tourism were also present.

BHEL which is a central public sector enterprise under the Department of Heavy Industries has 16 manufacturing facilities spread across the country and also wish to expands its operations in the solar value chain by doing polysilicon refining wafer, and ingot manufacturing.
