Bajaj is working on electric two wheeler from the last couple of years. The company will launch its all new electric scooter “Chetak Chic” under its brand name Urbanite. It is all set to launch its first electric scooter on October 16, 2019 in the presence of Nitin Gadkari, Minster of Road Transport and Highways and Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog. Bajaj’s Chetak Chick e-Scooter will launch in Pune & Bengaluru first
Bajaj registered its electric scooter as Chetak Chic Electric in 2017 and it will be priced around Rs 1 lakh and it will be the competitior of Ather 450, which is said to be the best electric scooter in India. It is currently available in Chennai and Bengaluru.
The launch will take place in the phases, it will first launch in Pune and Bengaluru followed by other major cities later. So there is a good news for people living in Pune and Bengaluru and others have to wait for a while till the company launches in other cities. Or we may also come to know the next cities on 16th.

The roll out of an electric vehicle in phases make sense to the business as EV segment in India is still in developing stage and moreover not sufficient charging infrastructure and EV segment is also not exactly the mass market when compared to petrol powered vehicles segment. So, launching in phases helps Bajaj to have control over the production and supply as it wont be all about numbers.
Another reason for the launch in Bengaluru and Pune is that Bengaluru is the city which has witnessed the huge growth of electric vehicles and Pune is smaller but it is nearby to the company’s manufacturing plant. The cities also have a two-wheeler market and the will of the people for greener is also high there.
The company also gets opportunity to setup the swap stations if the vehicles is having the swap option. The other electric two-wheeler launches such as Ather and Revolt have also launched in the phased manner.

However, the specifications of the electric scooter is not yet revealed but we can expect the range of this scooter to 80-100 km and the Motor capacity will be of 2-3kw. However we need to wait for one more week, that is up to October 16 to know the complete details of Bajaj electric scooter.
