15-minute battery from Log9
This battery pack can recharge real quick as per Log9’s claim. While there is a lot of research around the world to develop fast charging, Log9 materials from India came up with their rapid charging. These batteries are ready for use in the commercial sector for now but they might be into the EV sector if this pilot project is a success. So we expect it will be a success and now let us know more about the 15-minute battery from Log9.
About Log9
Log 9 Materials is an IIT Roorkee incubated startup that works on nanotechnology and specializing in Graphene. They are a 60 member team of scientists and engineers working on commercializing Graphene. They constantly work in the synthesis of various forms, functions, and applications of graphene. Previously, Log9 materials developed an Aluminium-air fuel cell that is capable of achieving a 1000 km range. Now they have another product for EV which is a battery pack that can rapidly charge for 15 minutes.
Technical overview
Most of us are aware of the fact that Superfast charging is not compatible with lithium-ion batteries. This can damage the health of Lithium cells and it may also lead to dangerous consequences. So, supercapacitors got attention because they grab the power quickly but they are also fast in discharging. This fast discharge is an obstacle for supercapacitors which has been an advantage for Lithium battery packs.
Log9 seems to have a trick to bring supercapacitors as an alternative for the existing Lithium battery pack. They made a supercapacitor powerpack for a two-wheeler which can offer a 70 km range with 15 minutes of recharge. They also made a battery pack for a commercial 3-wheeler which will offer a 60 km range with 15 minutes of recharge with 6KW as peak output.
Conclusion
According to Log9’s claim, these battery packs have 15 years or a million-kilometers of approximate battery life. They are now deployed in pilot projects with E-commerce and last-mile solutions. More information about this capacitor powerpack is yet to be known.
