Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) to release electric private vehicles of different seating capacities along the metro railroads to provide first and last-mile connectivity to stations from nearby catchment areas of colonies and offices. HMR to introduce 120 EVs.

In the next two months, it will launch about 120 electric vehicles (EVs), including two-wheelers and four-wheelers. The charges for up to five kilometers radius will be from ₹10 to ₹15 per passenger.




HMR is used by 3 lakh passengers every day and it will be helpful for the people and can easily take a metro said, officials. A quick start has been made already with 10-seater and 25-seater capacity vans but those are fuel-based.

HMR to introduce 120 EVs

HMR is not only planning to provide end-to-end last mile solutions, but it also plans for the EV charging facilities.

It has created under the public-private partnership (PPP) in selected stations that to free of cost for 6 to 8 months. There is not much demand for EV here but we expect it to pick it up in the coming months says an official.

Charging Stations available in Hyderabad

The first EV charging stations were installed at the Miyapur depot with 40 cars. The swapping stations and battery charging are in 16 metro stations including Kukatpally, NGRI, Uppal Stadium, Mettuguda, Tarnaka, Begumpet, KPHB, Moosapet by Finnish firm Fortum (India) and the in Miyapur and Balanagar by Power Grid Corporation of India; Diluskhnagar, Uppal, Secunderabad, and Kukatpaly by Saboo Kinetic.

Another charging stations installations at HiTec City, Narayanaguda, Yosufguda and Gandhi Bhavan will be added soon in the list. Hyderabad to have at least 30 stations to charge EVs.

Important catchment areas to get EV charging stations 

The important catchment areas such as Nampally, Paradise, Lakidikapul, Miyapur, Parade Grounds, Nagole, Mettuguda, Habsiguda, Tarnaka, L.B. Nagar, Dilsukhnagar, HiTec City, Durgam Cheruvu, Secunderabad East station, etc. will be covered soon.




Through this initiative, HMR will not only reduce the pollution levels from the country but also it is giving EV charging solutions, which is most importantly needed for the EVs to run.
