65 Tata Nexon EV ordered by Kerala Motor Vehicles Department
Kerala’s Motor Vehicles Department has ordered 65 Tata Nexon EV electric cars to be used for enforcement duties in the state. This is sure to encourage the usage of electric vehicles. The electric SUV will be used by Safe Kerala project squads that helps to execute motor vehicle rules as well as ensure discipline on the road.
The Tata Nexon EV are procured under a dry lease system for eight years by the Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EES). The maintenance of these cars will be done by EESL. This also includes the increase of the EV charging network, which each 65 squad offices get charging station.

Kerala’s Motor Vehicles Department (MDV) will use the SUV with donning the livery and paraphernalia for enforcement activities and gadgets such as radar speed sensors, cameras, and more. Tata Nexon EV
The Tata Nexon is an all-electric compact SUV that uses an electric motor that produces 129hp and 245Nm of torque and is powered by a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack which offers a range of 312 km. Tata offers the Nexon EV with an 8 year/1,60,000km warranty for the battery back. The Tata Nexon EV is currently offered in three variants, with prices ranging from Rs 13.99-15.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The variant of the EV that has been ordered by the Kerala MDV has not been disclosed.
Comparison of Tata Nexon, MG ZS & Hyundai Kona
Currently, there are three electric cars available in India, the Hyundai Kona electric, MG ZS EV and the Tata Nexon EV.
The Hyundai Kona electric launched last year and is said to be the longest-range electric car in India. It offers an ARAI certified range of 452 km on a single full charge and claimed that the car’s battery can be charged up to 80% in less than an hour.
Hyundai Kona comes in two battery variants, a 39kWh and 64kWh. It is powered by a 64.0 kWh lithium-ion batteries. There is a permanent-magnet synchronous motor which makes 204 hp and 395 Nm of peak torque and its top speed is 167 Kmph.
MG ZS EV is said to be an internet electric SUV. It is powered by a synchronous motor that gives 141 bhp and produces 353 Nm of peak torque. It is equipped with a 44.5 kWh battery pack which provides a range of 300 km on a single charge.
It accelerates 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and it gives a top speed of 140 km/h. The battery can be charged up to 80 per cent in 40 minutes with the help of a 50 kW DC charger. It takes seven hours to charge it with a standard 7 kW charger.
