ThunderPlus and Turno Partner to Expand EV Charging Infrastructure Along Key Highways

In a significant push toward sustainable transportation, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure provider ThunderPlus has partnered with Turno to establish 1 MW charging facilities along key highways. This initiative, which begins with the Hyderabad-Vizag corridor, is aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric buses and heavy commercial vehicles in India.

The partnership has already made progress, with charging stations operational in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vizag, and Rajahmundry. The collaboration plans to expand these charging networks to other major highways, further enhancing the feasibility of long-distance EV travel for large vehicles.

“While these charging stations are primarily designed for electric bus operations, they will also function as semi-public charging hubs,” said Rajeev YSR, CEO of ThunderPlus. This means that besides catering to electric buses, the facilities will also be accessible to other compatible EVs, ensuring broader usability.

A key driving force behind this initiative is Turno’s subsidiary, Electrigo. Sudhindra Reddy, Founder of Electrigo, emphasized the broader vision of the project, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with ThunderPlus as we expand our footprint in the large vehicle segment with Electrigo. Electrigo aims to replace 10 crore bus kilometers of diesel consumption with electric by the end of 2026.”

This collaboration aligns with India’s broader goals of reducing carbon emissions and encouraging sustainable mobility solutions. With the growing need for reliable EV charging infrastructure, initiatives like this are crucial in facilitating the transition to electric mobility in the commercial transport sector.

As the demand for EVs continues to rise, such partnerships play a vital role in addressing infrastructure gaps and making electric transportation a viable and sustainable alternative to traditional fuel-powered vehicles. The expansion of ThunderPlus and Turno’s charging network is expected to be a game-changer in the adoption of electric heavy commercial vehicles across India.
