Ola Electric to set-up EV battery swap stations in Delhi
BSES Discoms has signed an MoU with Ola Electric for setting-up battery swapping and charging stations for electric vehicles. The agreement, valid for a period of three years and is likely to hasten the adoption of EVs in the city.
These EV Battery swapping stations will be set-up at commonly identified and accessible locations. All two and three wheeler EVs and e- Rickshaws will be able to avail these services. And according to the response, their number will be increased later. Some of these stations will also offer a provision for charging electric cars.
Ola Electric will handle and operate these stations with the help of a cloud-based software system. On the other hand, BSES will assist in identification of strategic locations for setting up these batteries swapping and charging stations, based on the optimum usage and potential of electric vehicles in the area.
Ola Electric has been working closely with ecosystem partners across the country to accelerate mass adoption of EVs by creating a widespread network of charging solutions to operate with minimal restrictions.
Setting-up of battery swapping stations will exponentially eliminate the wait-time for charging, hence removing a major barrier preventing the adoption of EVs. Battery swapping has remarkable potential as a medium for charging small vehicles, thereby creating favorable economics for consumers, Discoms and also for the power sector.
Vehicles using advanced batteries through swapping have been proven to run 25% longer compared to those conventional charging and 50% more compared to Lead-Acid battery vehicles. It also reduces the upfront cost of EVs and improves the demand.
