Madhya Pradesh government plans to provide 2,200 electric buses for the public transport system in the next four years, state Urban Development and Planning Minister Jai Vardhan Singh said on Tuesday.

The state cabinet has approved the new Electric Vehicle Policy 2019 to encourage the use of Electric Vehicles in public transport in the state.
Speaking to all the media people after the cabinet meeting, Singh said, “The urban development department will introduce about 2,200 e-buses in the next four years in the public transport system, and promote e-rickshaws and other electric vehicles.”
“The government’s goal is to initiate the use of electric vehicles in at least four to five major cities in the state. Besides that, the government is planning to set-up charging stations at various locations for these electric vehicles,” Singh said.
And also he adds “as per the policy, a subsidy of Rs 150 crore will be sanctioned to promote the use of electric vehicles in the next four years. Under this policy, electric vehicles will be given 100 percent exemption from road tax and registration fee.”
In addition, no charges will be imposed on electric vehicles at civic parking areas for the first five years, according to the new policy.
