Mahindra Electric, Yatri EV, Mayuri, Citylife, and Mini Metro were among the top five electric 3-wheeler retail sales in January 2023
Sales of electric 3-wheelers in India have reached new heights with over 32,000 units sold in January 2023. This is a significant increase compared to sales of electric vehicles, which have yet to reach the same level of awareness.
The surge in electric 3-wheeler sales is due to several factors, including the government’s push for green mobility. In addition, there is the widespread availability of affordable electric vehicles and growing concern about air pollution. Tricycles are becoming a popular alternative to traditional diesel/CNG-powered vehicles for transportation and delivery purposes, offering significant cost savings and environmental benefits.
Mahindra Electric secured the top spot on the sales list. The company sold 2,833 battery-powered tricycles in January 2023. Mahindra Electric offers a range of electric vehicles including battery-driven auto rickshaws, battery-powered pickups, and delivery and freight vehicles. The company’s range of electric vehicles consists of four models: Treo, Treo Yaari, Treo Zor, Zor Grand.
The YC electric vehicle, also known as the Yatri EV, earned him second place on the sales list. The company sold 2,275 of its E3Ws in January. In addition to electric rickshaws, the company manufactures electric carts and loaders.
Number three on the sales list is Saera Electric, better known as Mayuri. Mayuri sold 1,663 three-wheel battery-powered vehicles in January. Mayuri also manufactures electric rickshaws and electric loaders.
This was followed by Dilli Electric/Citylife (1,336), Mini Metro (1,121), and Champion Poly Plast (1,120).
Piaggio, a popular auto-rickshaw company, also reported a surge in demand for battery-powered 3-wheelers. The company sold 1,069 electric vehicles in January. Piaggio manufactures electric autorickshaws and battery-powered freight vehicles in India.
