Jeep Wrangler Magneto EV unveiled
Jeep has unveiled a new electric vehicle the Wrangler Magneto. It is a concept electric vehicle so we cant expect it to be launching soon. Its design is based on Jeep Wrangler Rubicon which has an electric motor that provides up to 273 pound-feet of torque and 285 horsepower. It offers an 800-volt system across four battery packs.
The company has not revealed all the specifications but it is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission if we compare it with other electric cars it will have single-speed transmissions. The Magneto concept can accelerate 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds and delivers 273 lb./ft. of torque.
Jeep in a press release said that “The e-motor is connected to a six-speed manual transmission, creating a unique manual-electric powertrain with a clutch that operates as it would with an internal combustion engine. In quick-shift scenarios, the e-motor engages regen upon clutch engagement to prevent rev-hang.”
“An inverter derived from race cars converts DC power to AC for the high-tech motor. The batteries, a vehicle interface box and the battery control module all reside in waterproof enclosures to maintain the Wrangler’s 30-inch water-traversing capability. A 12-volt battery powers existing systems, such as the radio and lighting,”
“A second 12-volt battery serves as an auxiliary power unit (APU) for accessories, such as the winch. A DC-to-DC converter charges both 12-volt batteries, allowing long-term operation of accessories to power a campsite or an unexpectedly long winch operation. Unique mounts secure the battery packs for harsh driving and custom skid plates protect the packs from potential strikes to the undercarriage while traversing harsh terrain.”
Jeep Wrangler 4xe
Last year, the Jeep had introduced a Jeep Wrangler 4xe a plug-in hybrid technology with regenerative braking. The all-new 4xe comes with a four-wheel-drive configuration. It gets a ‘Trail-Rated’ badge which makes it an offroader. It comes with a water wading capacity which is similar to the regular Jeep Wrangler.
It is equipped with a 400V set up with a 17kWh Lithium-ion battery and a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder petrol engine. The petrol engine produces 270BHP of power and 400Nm of torque and its 17kWh battery produces 44BHP of power with a peak torque of 53Nm. The traction motor produces 134BHP of power and 245Nm of torque. It gives 40 kilometres of range in purely electric mode with 280kW/637Nm and can do 97km/h in seven seconds. The battery uses nickel manganese cobalt technology.
The company is offering three variants such as 4xe, Sahara 4xe and Rubicon 4xe for its Jeep Wrangler 4xe. Wrangler 4xe will be available to customers before the end of the year in America, Europe and China. In India, it is expected to launch in 2021.
As for the electric vehicle Wrangler Magneto, the company seems to be testing and experiencing the electric components for its vehicles we can’t expect much that this vehicle will make it to production but still hope for the best.
