Hyundai Nexo Electric SUV powered by hydrogen

Hyundai Nexo electric SUV is powered by hydrogen. It provides a range of 600 kilometres in European WLTP and 800 kilometres in the Korean test cycle. Hydrogen-powered vehicles are different from all-electric vehicles they do not require heavy battery packs. They can be charged in just 5 minutes whereas electric vehicles take hours to charge.

Its features for the global market include smart cruise control, LED headlamps, blind-spot monitor, lane-keeping assist, forward collision assist, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, paddle shifters, ventilated powered front seats and a fully digital instrument cluster.

While we look for its technical specifications, The electric Nexo SUV is equipped with a 1.56kWh battery and its electric motor producing 161PS and provides a 395Nm of peak torque. It accelerates 0-100kmph in just 9.2 seconds. The SUV gets a fuel tank of 156.6 litres.

The company will collaborate with the government to develop the required infrastructure for fuel cell charging and maintenance.

Hyundai Motor India’s Managing Director and CEO, SS Kim stated “The Nexo is already on sale in Korea and we will be launching it in India in 2021. We will be partnering in building the required infrastructure for the Nexo in and around the Delhi-NCR area.” The Nexo uses hydrogen fuel cells to power an electric motor and has a range of over 600km on the WLTP test cycle (world harmonized light-duty vehicles test procedure) in Europe, 800km in the Korean test cycle and Kim believes, in India, it could deliver over 1000km.
