Gujarat announces subsidy of Rs 10k on battery vehicles for students
Government of Gujarat has implemented a program for the promotion of eco-friendly vehicles in which it will distribute the battery-operated vehicles (BOVs) especially two-wheelers to the students of ninth standard and above.

Students opting for BOVs will get the benefit of state subsidy to the tune of Rs 10,000 per vehicle. The program will be carried out by a dealership network of Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) authorized manufacturers.
Talking about the specifications of the electric vehicle ( battery-operated two-wheelers), its top speed is 25 km/h has also been distributed to 12th standard students and above with a valid driving license.
Low-speed battery-operated vehicle
Earlier in 2015-16 and 2016-17, GEDA has implemented the low-speed battery-operated vehicles program in Gandhinagar city and Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority (GUDA) area with the benefit of ₹10,000 (~$141)/BOV for students to the students between eight standards an 12.
The same program was also extended to the 4 major cities of the state such as Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Rajkot.
These battery-operated vehicles are equipped with advanced batteries with three years of warranty.
During 2018-19, the government of Gujarat’s Climate Change Department has brought a program of battery-operated three-wheelers (e-rickshaws). e-rickshaws fitted with advance batteries during 2019-20, comes with a subsidy of ₹40,000 on a reimbursement basis.
With the use of battery-operated vehicles for urban mobility in the state, it has a huge potential to save petroleum products and also to save the environment. The low-speed vehicles also get the benefit that it doesn’t require a driving license and RTO registrations by the Automotive Research Association of India.
