Godawari E-mobility to invest Rs 150 Cr to set up EV manufacturing unit in Raipur

Godawari E-mobility Pvt Ltd a joint venture of Hira Group has announced that it is planning to invest up to Rs 150 crore by 2023 to set up an electric vehicle manufacturing unit at Raipur and also in South and West India.

The company at present leases Eblu-branded electric tricycles in six states in eastern and northern India and now plans to launch its own high-speed electric tricycle and two electric bicycles by January 2022 under the same brand. Siddharth Agarwal, director of Godawari E-mobility Pvt Ltd said “From January 2021, we will set up a manufacturing plant in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, both of which we plan to develop electric and tricycles manufactured by us.”

This move by the company comes to supplement the present leasing business of electric three-wheelers. The company is also looking forward to launching high-speed electric autos marking its footsteps in South and West India as well as South Indian market is actually in need of high-speed autos because of the need for distances and capacities. The electric three-wheelers of the company will get an average range of around 100-120 kilometres on a single charge.

Agarwal said, “We are looking for an investment of somewhere close to Rs 50 crore by the end of March (2022) and then going forward by end of March 2023 we would be looking for this investment to grow to Rs 100 crore to Rs 150 crore.”

“We are looking to build up a capacity of one lakh two-wheelers and one lakh three-wheelers by the end of 2025 on an annual basis,” he added. At the initial stage, the company is expecting 20,000 units in 2022 and later on, it will increase its production capacity.

He said the company’s future lithium-ion battery-powered electric tricycles are currently being tested for approval by government agencies ICAT and ARAI. “Once all approvals have been obtained and everything is complete, we plan to launch a soft launch in January.” 

The company aims to expand to 40-45 cities in South India from January to March. At present it has a network of 40 dealers, operating in the six to seven cities of north and east India. It targets around 100 dealership networks by the end of March 2022.

Last year, it had announced that it is launching India’s first e-rental model e-Rickshaw ‘eblu’ at Courtyard By Marriott, Raipur. The eblue e-Rickshaws are ‘Made in India’ and are powered by a high-performance lithium battery that provides a great range.

Chairman Hira Group J P Agrawal said that “We are happy for the launch of eblu at a time when India is taking a giant leap towards pollution-free vehicular transport solutions. The eblu which is to be launched on June 2 in Raipur will meet the global standards of emission, and is a result of in house R & D by our team dedicated to design and economic sustainability”
