EV9 launch confirmed for 2024 by Kia

EV9 will be Kia’s first three-row EV in India

It has been confirmed that the Korean auto giant Kia will launch its 3-row electric SUV EV9 in India in 2024. It has been announced that the company will launch the EV9 electric vehicle in India next year, along with the next-generation Carnival. EV9 will be the second electric vehicle from the Korean manufacturer after the EV6 and the first three-row electric vehicle from the manufacturer. Tata Motors currently holds a majority share of the passenger electric vehicle market in India, which Kia aims to achieve by launching its EV9.

The Kia EV9 electric SUV was previously displayed as a concept at the January Auto Expo in India. The vehicle was subsequently launched in some of the international markets, including Kia’s home market of South Korea. There was an earlier announcement by Kia that the EV9 would be launched in India by 2025. In the next three years, the manufacturer plans to introduce three new models, including two electric cars.

The EV6 is Kia’s first electric vehicle that was launched in India last year. A more comprehensive offering is now being developed by the brand to consolidate its position in the EV segment. According to Tae-Jin Park, Kia India’s Managing Director and CEO, in 2025 the company plans to start manufacturing an EV for mass markets and then introduce new electric models every year.

This year’s Kia EV9 will be based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which also underpinned the company’s first electric car, the EV6. As far as size is concerned, the EV9 measures more than five meters in length. As a result, its dimensions are similar to those of its global SUV Telluride. In addition to its six-seat configuration, it will also be available in two variants known as HT Line and GT Line.

Following Kia, the EV9 is expected to have a range of up to 541 kilometers on a single charge. The 150 kW electric motor is expected to enable the EV to sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 9.4 seconds. The Kia EV9 will have a rear-wheel drive version equipped with an electric motor capable of 160 kW. EVs are equipped with an electric architecture capable of charging at ultrafast rates thanks to their 800-volt electrical architecture. With only 15 minutes of charging, the EV9 is capable of running 239 kilometers.

It is capable of providing hands-free driving on highways thanks to its level 3 ADAS system with highway driving pilot. Two lidars, radars, and cameras will be used to provide a 360-degree view of the road as part of the ADAS system.

A second model from Kia will be introduced in India in 2024 with the Kia EV9. In addition, according to the car manufacturer, the new Carnival MPV will also be re-released next year. It was recently revealed that the MPV has undergone several changes in the new avatar. As a result of stricter emission standards enacted earlier this year, a premium MPV was withdrawn from the market earlier this year.
