EV Charging Space in Delhi Metro Stations and Karnataka Buildings

Highlights:

  • To boost-up last mile connectivity and to promote eco-mobility, the Delhi government and Karnataka state are planning to set-up EV Charging Space in Delhi Metro Stations and Karnataka Buildings.
  • In a meeting to review the progress of implementation of Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) plans on DMRC metro stations, the government officials asked the authorities to install charging facilities for electric vehicles at each metro station to enhance the last mile connectivity.

EV Charging Stations in Delhi Metro Stations

Anil Baijal, Lt. Governor of Delhi conducted a meeting recently to review the progress of implementation of Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) plans on DMRC metro stations. was by Secretary-cum-Commissioner of Transport, GNCTD; Special Commissioner of Police of Traffic Department, MD (DIMTS); MD (DTIDC), Pr. Chief Engineer (PWD); Chief Architect (DMRC) and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

 

In the meeting, LG asked the authorities of Metro to install charging facilities for the e-vehicle at each metro station to encourage e-vehicles for the last mile connectivity.

 

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) recently started providing electric bikes in partnership with Bengaluru based start-up Yulu for the commuters for last mile connectivity. The Yulu services will begin with nine metro stations along the Yellow and Blue metro lines. These are included in the 40 Yulu zones.

 

Honorable LG instructed DMRC to prepare detailed MMI plans of remaining Metro Stations and to start execution in these 40 metro stations consultation with Traffic Police, Transport Department and PWD.

EV Charging Space in Karnataka Buildings

The Karnataka state is planning to update its Model Building Bye-laws 2017. According to the updated Building Bye-laws it is compulsory for residential and commercial buildings to reserve dedicated space for EVs.

 

The state will make it mandatory for at least 20 per cent parking space in buildings to be reserved for EV charging infrastructure and other EV related facilities. Also, a draft for the proposed amendment has already been prepared. The amendment has been forwarded to the urban development department for the analysis of requisite and its approval. Once it is approved, the draft will be notified and public comments will be invited for the same.
