Dynamo Taxi, Electric Version of London’s iconic black cab launched
An all electric version of London’s world famous black cab was launched on Wednesday. It offers a range of as much as 187 miles on a single charge. It can carry a maximum of five passengers and it is wheelchair accessible. The zero-emission vehicle which is called the Dynamo Taxi, is made based on the Nissan e-NV200 Evalia.
“The Dynamo Taxi will accelerate the retirement of polluting diesel taxis from city streets across the U.K., improving air quality, helping to tackle the climate emergency and to create a green economy,” the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan said.
Since January 2018, taxis in London being licensed to be “zero emission capable.” Their carbon dioxide emissions must not exceed 50 grams per kilometer mark and they need to maintain a minimum zero emission range of 30 miles.
The Dynamo Taxi is priced at £55,495 ($71,461). It is added to London’s sustainable transport options, thereby joining the London EV Company’s TX vehicle on the London streets. Dynamo is powered by a lithium-ion battery and it also utilizes a petrol range extender.
The Central London now becomes home to an Ultra-Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ). The ULEZ operates 24/7. Vehicles which do not meet the ULEZ’s emissions standards should pay a daily charge to drive in the zone. But Taxis with a London license got exemption from the charge, even though there is a 15-year age limit for the vehicles.
