Plating lithium and extreme heat are solved by Exponent’s 15-minute charging
The Murugappa Group’s electric vehicle brand, Montra Electric, has partnered with Exponent Energy, an energy-tech startup, to develop rapid-charging electric vehicles for three-wheelers.
Montra Electric will launch a 3W fast charging variant equipped with Exponent’s 8.8 kWh e-pack and achieve 0-100% charge in 15 minutes on Exponent’s e^pump charging network, while also being capable of slow charging at home.
Exponent’s e^pack comes with a 3000-cycle life warranty even with 100% rapid charging. This technology was independently validated by TUV India (TUV Nord Group, Germany) which reported only 13% degradation after 3000 cycles of rapid charging.
Montra Electric, an EV Brand from the 123 years legacy of Murugappa Group has launched its Super Auto in the three-wheeler passenger category with an aspirational and industry-defining proposition. By early 2024, the brand expects to introduce its Three Wheeler Cargo Proposition to both individual and institutional customers.
By using Exponent’s proprietary energy stack (batteries, charging stations, and connectors) 15-minute rapid charging is now possible on the go. With 15-minute rapid charging, they are able to overcome two major challenges: lithium plating and extreme temperatures.
The company’s proprietary BMS and charging algorithm ensures minimal lithium plating, ensuring the long life of the e^pack. To combat extreme temperatures, the company has innovated the world’s first “water-based” external heat management system using an advanced HVAC system in electronic pumps.
The CEO of TI Clean Mobility, Kalyan Kumar Paul, expressed confidence in the partnership with Exponent Energy and sent his best wishes, stating, “This will be an important step in the journey of integrating electricity ”.

A total of 40 showrooms have already been established by Montra Electric in the South Indian market, and this number is expected to grow rapidly in the remaining parts of the country by the end of the current financial year. Additionally, the company is developing more variants of its products to meet the needs of a wide range of customers.
Exponent Energy CEO, Arun Vinayak, explained, “15-minute rapid charging eliminates charging anxiety, ensuring operational uptime and flexibility necessary for last-mile mobility. Customers will be able to refuel their electric vehicles similarly to diesel vehicles and benefit from all the advantages of going electric.
Several hundred vehicles have already been delivered to customers by Exponent in Bengaluru with the help of 30 or more e-pumps, together providing half a million kilometers of daily energy.
In addition to Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, Exponent Energy plans to expand its operations in five more cities by the year 2023. During the next five years, the company plans to deploy 1,000 electric pumps and power 25,000 electric vehicles with its technology.
