Efforts to promote the growth of electric vehicles

Electric vehicles today are not a surprise its there since the 1800s when the first car was made. Till that time to today, there is a major difference whether in technology, adoption or acceptance of electric vehicles. One of the major concern that people are looking forward to choosing electric vehicles is the environment. As we can see natural destructions, disasters everywhere people have become more conscious of their healths. People are preferring more electric vehicles than fossil fuel vehicles, as the ICE vehicles are one of the reasons for air and noise pollutions in the world. Let us see the efforts made by the growth of electric vehicles.

Growth of electric vehicles

Electric vehicles have become popular by their unique features of zero emissions, quiet and speed. They are becoming a new trend and is definitely a future trend. As we are already witnessing the rapid growth of electric vehicles since 2019 starting 10 months itself the sales of the electric vehicles accounted for 2.2 per cent of the global vehicle market. In 2018 there were more than 5 million electric vehicles worldwide which are an increase of 63 per cent in the previous year.

But this year in 2020 due to global coronavirus pandemic and economic challenges the sales of global electric vehicles have been dropped by 43 per cent. However, it will gradually pick up as there will be improvements in the economy. As the governments across the globe are playing a major role to promote and to encourage the use of electric vehicles in the world.

Governments efforts to promote the growth of EV

India

Many of India’s state has announced the electric vehicles policy to promote the growth of eco-friendly vehicles by providing various incentives for electric vehicles, EV charging infrastructure, etc, to achieve the target to become a manufacturing hub and 30% of electric vehicles on road by 2030.

Recently the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the government of India has announced the sales and registrations of electric vehicles without batteries to create an ecosystem to accelerate the uptake of the electric mobility in the country.

Factors that help in the growth of electric vehicles in India

To promote public transport in the State, the State government of Assam issued a tender for 50 new electric buses. In that 40 will be air-conditioned and 10 will be non-AC buses. The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) made a proposal and as per it, the interested bidders should make earnest money deposit (EMD) of Rs 1 crore latest by September 1, 2020.

UK

Similarly, the UK is also preparing transition towards electric vehicles by ending the sales of new combustion engine-powered cars and vans to 2035. Whereas if see Dubai, the owners can now charge their electric vehicles for free until the end of 2021 as part of a move by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Road Transport Authority to boost sales. So that half of the vehicles will be electric by 2040.

Regional Victoria

Regional Victoria will receive a boost to its electric car-friendly infrastructure courtesy of a $664,000 state government project, which will see more than 15 charging stations installed in towns across the state’s north-west to promote green tourism.

California

Consumer and environmental organizations are joining forces with electric vehicle manufacturers to support urgently needed legislation to allow California consumers to access zero-emission electric vehicles through innovative, affordable, short-term, renewable memberships.

Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, Democrat from Torrence, and Sen. Ben Allen, Democrat from Santa Monica, are championing Assembly Bill 326, which would establish a framework for “Electric Vehicle Memberships” and provide easy access to EVs by allowing manufacturers to offer short-term memberships to consumers.

The memberships will include registration, maintenance, charging and an insurance option, and provide a more affordable alternative to buying, leasing, or renting an electric vehicle with no long-term financial commitment.
