Delivering last-mile EVs: Zen Mobility launches EV Micro Pod

First EV Micro Pod from Zen Mobility

Zen Mobility, an Indian electric vehicle (EV) original equipment manufacturer based in Manesar, Gurgaon, has launched the Zen Micro Pod, a purpose-built three-wheeled cargo LEV (lightweight electric vehicle). There are two variants of the Zen Micro Pod that you can choose from, the R5x and the R10x. The load capacity is 150kg, which exceeds conventional two-wheeled vehicles’ load capacity. The vehicle has a range of over 120 kilometers and operates economically.

According to the company, charging time is about 1.5 to 2 hours and consumes power for 4 units. “In addition to its compact, ergonomic design, the Zen Micro Pod is also compact and lightweight. All conditions are accommodated by the braking system, which is designed to provide smooth and effective braking. With a patented powertrain and vehicle tracking system for efficient vehicle management, the pod also features an adjustable cargo box with several storage units. It offers features such as vehicle tracking, real-time monitoring, geo-fencing, and remote locking,” the statement added.

Zen Mobility announced that it received 10,000 pre-orders from a major logistics company. The company has set up a production line in Manesar with an annual capacity of 100,000 units. Product production is scheduled to start in June 2023. Zen Micro Pods have undergone extensive testing in a variety of terrain and weather conditions, proving their ability to consistently perform in the harshest conditions.

Founder and CEO of Zen Mobility, Namit Jain, was thrilled with the launch. He highlighted the company’s commitment to urban mobility. He also shared that Zen Mobility is working with several leasing and rental companies, and fleet and third-party logistics (3PL) providers to ensure smooth deployment of Zen Micro Pods through leasing or monthly rental.

Zen Mobility has obtained an ARAI Certificate of Conformance for the Zen Micro Pod. This indicates that it complies with the Indian automotive industry regulations. In addition, Zen Mobility announced the development of Zen Maxi Pod, its versatile 4-wheel LEV designed for cargo and delivery of medium to large goods. The market launch is scheduled for FY2013. A prototype is currently in development and customer testing is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2024.
