BMTC plans to buy 100 electric buses

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is planning to buy 100 electric buses, which will be completely funded by the State government of India.

This decision was made after the BMTC lost the approval for hiring 80 electric buses of about Rs 80 crore. The Transport Minister D C Thamanna, who opposed the plan to lease the buses but is much interested to buy the e-buses.

Supply of 1,500, electric buses BMTC

For the supply of 1,500, e-buses BMTC called for the expression of interest (EOI) but due to the model code of conduct, it got postponed for the opening of the bids.

The BMTC will soon submit a proposal to purchase 100 e-buses said the sources in the government.

“A plan is being prepared to purchase 100 buses, whose operation will be of great help in understanding the ergonomics of the electric buses,” an official said.




The officials hoping to get back the Rs 80 crore central aid. They are banking on a reference to the same in phase II.

In a notification issued on March 11th says, “Projects sanctioned under Fame India Scheme Phase 1 shall continue to be in operation, Similarly, electric buses sanctioned to different state/city transport corporation under FAME India Phase 1 shall continue to be in operation as per terms and conditions issued at the time of sanction.




The state can get back the subsidy only if the Centre is willing to give, State’s success is all dependant on the Centre’s decision.
