Andhra Pradesh government delicenses EV Charging stations
AP government has announced that it would delicense EV charging stations. Therefore, any individual or entity in the state can install charging stations for electric vehicles without applying for a licence.
Abhay Bhakre, the director-general of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), said that an individual or any other respective distribution company must ensure power connectivity and that the public charging stations should meet the standards and safety regulations.
Taking this initiative forward, the BEE has started ‘Go Electric’ campaign to promote the use of electric vehicles across India. The Indian government is aiming to make electric three-wheelers operational in India by 2023 and electric two-wheelers by 2025.
Last week, state-owned entities turned in the lowest bids for setting up more than 2,700 EV charging stations across 90 cities in India under FAME II scheme. Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Ltd (REIL), Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), the Department of Heavy Industry (DHI), National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), PowerGrid and others are awarded rights to install public charging stations.
The state government also claimed that the Andhra Pradesh Energy Efficiency Services Limited (APEESL) has already established 80 charging stations at various locations and has supplied 300 EVs to government departments.
Under the new guidelines, BEE was appointed as the central nodal agency, with a provision for state nodal agencies. The objective of the nodal agencies is to make sure at least one charging station in every 3 Km * 3 Km grid in cities, at least one charging station at every 25 Km on both sides of state highways and roads. As a part of first phase, highways and roads connecting the major cities with a population of over 4 million will be covered.
