Kerala Government Targets 10 million EVs On The Roads.
The rise in fuel prices and pollution making the Government and people opt for EVs. The Kerala Government with a target of 10 million EVs on roads. The newly registered private EVs will get a tax refund. To develop e-mobility Rs 12 crore has been given as ‘e-mobility fund,’ which is used for the tax subsidy to 10,000 electric autos.
Kerala Introduces 1 million EV
The private EVs will get 25% of tax repayment for 5 years while e-rickshaws for 50%. In major towns, only new electric autos will be permitted. The charging stations for an EV to charge will be set up with the help of the private investors based on the requirements of the vehicles. Kerala Introduces 1 million EV by 2022.
KSRTC Will Soon Launch Electric Buses
State electric vehicle policy finance minister, TM Isaac Thomas said, that the KSRTC will also go for electric buses very soon, “The electric buses tried on the Pampa-Nilakkal route has proved that the introduction of such vehicles will bring only profit to the government undertaking. In the first phase, all services in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.will be changed to electric buses. With this, Thiruvananthapuram will be the first city in India with the only electric buses on the roads. The Water Transport Corporation has started using solar boats.”
Kerala Plans To Manufacture EV With A Swiss Company
Manufacturing of EVs is also planned by the government by setting up the factories. The Kerala Automobiles has also started manufacturing the experimental autos. It will work with the Swiss company to manufacture electric buses as a joint venture.
Kerala Transport Commissioner K Padmakumar Says on EV
“New permits for three-wheelers will be given only to EVs at least in the three main cities, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. Top priority will be for the conversion of autorickshaws and stage carriers. In the next stage, the focus will be on electric buses and boats,” Kerala transport commissioner K Padmakumar said.
