200 EV charging stations in Delhi
EESL to setup 200 EV chargings stations in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida in the next three months.
The Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), managing director, Saurabh Kumar will layout the charging stations in South Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida and some other parts of the city.
The locations witnesses huge public such as Connaught Place, Khan Market have been selected with other places where charging stations need to be installed. This is been planned as it gets a lot of consumers from the shared mobility space by the taxi aggregators.
4 lakh EVs in India, half of them are in UP and Delhi
As per the road transport ministry’s data, there are nearly 4 lakh registered electric vehicles in India and out of them half are in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Delhi. The EVs mostly included e-rickshaws and e-carts which got a legal status when Parliament passed a law in 2015 that this vehicle will be recognized as the motor vehicles.
Nitin Gadkari, Transport Minister
Nitin Gadkari informed in a written reply to Lok Sabha that Uttar Pradesh has 1.39 lakh registered electric vehicles whereas in Delhi nearly 75,600 EVs are registered. Karnataka holds the third position with the highest number of registered EVs and after that Maharashtra comes in line.
Among North-eastern states, Assam counts with the higher number of registered vehicles with 15,192 among more than many states in north and south and western India.
Apart from the official figures of EVs, the count is much more as thousands of e-rickshaws are running on roads without registrations, said the sources.
Transport ministry Notification
In regard to this, the transport ministry in August 2016 came up with the notification of exempting e-rickshaws and e-carts from obtaining commercials permits to carry goods or passengers.
As this is the best and affordable means of transport for the city commutes. To push EV adoption, the transportation ministry also issued the notice to grant an exemption to commercial e-vehicles, ethanol, and methanol based vehicles from the permits in 2018.
The exemption of registration fee for EVs was proposed to promote the e-mobility in India said Gadkari.

According to FAME India, there are 280144 electric vehicles sold in India under the FAME Scheme as per today.
