650 EV Charging charging stations set up by BESCOM in Karnataka. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) pushes the electrification of vehicles in Karnataka by setting up 650 electric vehicles (EV) charging stations across the state out of them, 100 will be set up in Bengaluru.

FAME scheme 

The project comes under the government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and EV ) Scheme. It will first carry out this project in Bengaluru as it is the State’s capital city which is the major focus.

From August, 100 charging stations will be added to the 112 EV charging stations for operations.

Bengaluru has 8,980 EVs registered 

At present the capital city, Bengaluru has 8,980 EVs that means 57% of registered vehicles in the State. Between 2018 and 2019 there is a huge jump of 40% in the EVs number registered in the State according to the reports.

EV charging stations at every 20 to 25km distance of 50km 

The company is planning to install EV charging stations at every 20 to 25 km for a distance of 50 km on either side of the roads that includes the Bengaluru-Tumakuru highway and for a 100km distance on either side of Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency

BESCOM made a proposal to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and waiting for its approval.

Bescom’s deputy general manager for smart grid and electric vehicle, CK Sreenath said, “Due to space constraints, most of the proposed EV charging stations will come up in government offices and complexes. After Bengaluru, stations will be set up in Mysuru, Hubbali-Dharwad, and Davangere and later in Shivamogga and Belagavi.”
