Zoox, an American autonomous vehicle startup has unveiled an electric and autonomous vehicle Robo-taxi a compact, a multidirectional four-person vehicle designed for dense, urban environments. The Zoox electric vehicle has a massive battery pack. The company has become a higher profile when major investments boosted it and it is acquired by one of the biggest multinational technology company.

The vehicle will be a shuttle-like vehicle designed for autonomous ride-hailing. The carriage style interior has two benches that face each other. There is no steering wheel and its height is just under 12 feet long.

The company has confirmed that the vehicle features a 133 kWh battery one of the largest battery pack available in the electric vehicle today which can be operated for 16 hours continuously on a single charge.
It has a top speed of 75 miles per hour. It is among the first vehicles with bidirectional capabilities and four-wheel steering, allowing for better maneuverability.

Designed and manufactured in the US, Zoox is the only vehicle to offer bidirectional driving capabilities and four-wheel steering, which enables maneuvering through compact spaces and changing directions without the need to reverse. The vehicle features a four-seat, face-to-face symmetrical seating configuration skipping the conventional car designs.

Aicha Evans, Zoox chief executive officer said that “revealing our functioning and driving vehicle is an exciting milestone in our company’s history and marks an important step on our journey toward deploying an autonomous ride-hailing service. We are transforming the rider experience to provide superior mobility-as-a-service for cities. And as we see the alarming statistics around carbon emissions and traffic accidents, it’s more important than ever that we build a sustainable, safe solution that allows riders to get from point A to point B.” 

It comes with a 5-star crash safety protections for all four seats. The vehicle has cameras, radar and lidar that gives it a 270-degree field of view on all four corners of the vehicle which lets it consistently track objects next to and behind it, including pedestrians, bicyclists and other road users.
