Daimler to launch India’s first electric truck

Daimler a heavy-duty truck and bus manufacturer is planning to launch India’s first electric truck. The company makes medium and heavy trucks and buses under the  BharatBenz and Fuso brand and also expanded its portfolio with the country’s first-ever Euro-V compliant special edition truck.

It is scheduled to have an event next year called  ‘Future Mobility’. The company will reveal its plans for the electric truck at the event. At the FICCI annual general meeting, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said “I had an interaction with the managing director of Mercedes-Benz. He was telling me they are planning to launch an electric truck.”

Daimler is looking to launch a fully electric truck in 2021 for the international market. Its first all-electric truck is the light-duty Fuso eCanter and its second-generation version will be launched next year. The eCanter has a driving range of 100 km and can carry a payload of up to 3,200 kg.

Daimler is the only company to launch Bharat Stage 5 (BS-V) trucks in India even when there was no such need as the manufacturers were asked to skip the BS-V and jump from BS-IV to BS-VI.
