Xcel Energy plans for 1.5 million electric cars on road by 2030

An energy provider Xcel Energy from the United States which provides 3.3 million electricity customers has made an announcement that it planned to help to put 1.5 million electric cars on the road by 2030.

Xcel Energy

Xcel Energy Inc. is a utility holding company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, serving more than 3.3 million electric customers and 1.8 million natural gas customers in Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Texas and New Mexico in 2017.

Xcel aims to see 20% of all the vehicles in Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Texas and New Mexico transition to electric powertrains reducing annual carbon emissions by 5 million tons (about 4.5 million tonnes).

It has a goal to transform 100% pollution-free vehicles by 2050. Since 2005 it has reduced the carbon emissions to 44% in the 8 states it provides energy by using a mix of nuclear, wind, solar, and other renewable sources. The company will contribute by providing consumers with cost-effective power solutions to power an electric vehicle. It costs less than the cost of petrol and diesel fuels.

The company says that it will direct its programs to public transport, ride-share and other equity-focused initiatives that ensure that everyone can gain access to the benefits of electric transportation for those in low-income people.

The Xcel Energy plan to reach 100% carbon-free electricity by 2050 includes investment in large wind power. It has a pretty neat interactive pie chart that says it is on track to achieve 60% carbon-free electricity by 2027.
