With the Chetak Premium 2023 Edition, Bajaj Auto is expanding its EV range

Reach 100 Chetak stores by the end of March 2023 in 85 cities.

Bajaj Auto, which entered the Indian electric two-wheeler market with its e-scooter Chetak in January 2020, has expanded its EV portfolio with the Chetak Premium 2023 Edition priced at Rs 151,910 (ex showroom, Bangalore).

This pricing makes Chetak Premium 2023 Edition Rs. 29,977 more expensive than Chetak Premium 2023 Edition (ex showroom, Bangalore). Shipping will begin in April with pre-orders currently being taken.

In its latest avatar, Chetak embraces fresh details, the use of premium materials and its trio of colors: Matte Coarse Gray, Matte Caribbean Blue and Satin Black. A new feature is a large full-color LCD console that displays vehicle information. Other product highlights include two-tone seats, body-coloured rear-view mirrors, matte black grab bars and color-matched passenger foot-peg castings. Headlamp nacelles, turn signals and center trim are available in charcoal black.

The Chetak Premium 2023 Edition continues to feature an all-metal body and an efficient on-board charger, among other industry-leading features.

The company has also announced progress on key initiatives in its two-wheeled EV business, signaling changes in the scope and quality of its business going forward. In a statement, Bajaj Auto said, “Bajaj Auto’s two-wheel electric vehicle supply chain has been restructured and we have made significant progress in several development programs with key vendors. Not only does this ensure availability of over 10,000 Chetak units each month, it also reduces costs and makes Chetak more accessible to customers. ”

From launch to the end of January 2023, Bajaj Chetak has sold an estimated 38,771 units. This is well below the 77,664 that the TVS iQube, which launched in January 2020, booked on the Indian e-scooter market.

Bajaj Chetak’s sales have been affected to some extent by its reduced range of 90 km on a single charge. Additionally, it has fewer city launches and network programs compared to TVS and other competitors. To counteract and boost sales, Bajaj Auto announced in a circular last month that its Chetak’s range would increase by 20% to 108km under Indian Driving Conditions (IDC). This improved range will help improve Chetak’s performance on the buyer front.

Chetak EV is now on sale in over 60 cities across India. Bajaj Auto currently plans to offer e-scooters in about 100 stores in 85 cities by the end of March 2023. More than 40 of these stores function as experience centers. All Chetak dealers have dedicated service centers.

Bajaj Auto Executive Director Rakesh Sharma said: Chetak’s premium and trustworthy image is further enhanced by an upgraded Premium 2023 edition, upgraded colors, an eye-catching LED display panel, and other finely crafted features. Rapid progress and solid prospects for various supply chain initiatives. This allows us to grow our network, ensure availability everywhere, and strengthen our product portfolio to cover different segments and price points. This allows them to take advantage of the opportunities that electric vehicles present.
