Volvo Opens Bookings for Single-Motor XC40 Recharge: A More Affordable Electric Option

Volvo India has revved up its electric vehicle offerings with the announcement of bookings for the new single-motor variant of the XC40 Recharge. This SUV caters to drivers seeking a more budget-friendly entry point into Volvo’s electric vehicle lineup, while still delivering impressive performance and range.

Single Motor, Streamlined Efficiency

The key feature of this new variant is the powertrain. Unlike the previously available all-wheel-drive version with dual electric motors, this XC40 Recharge utilizes a single electric motor positioned on the rear axle. This configuration translates to a more attractive price point, making electric luxury more accessible. Bookings officially opened on March 19, 2024, with a token amount of ₹1 lakh accepted through Volvo India’s website.

Here’s a look at the key specifications of the single-motor XC40 Recharge:

  • Powertrain: Single rear-mounted electric motor
  • Power: 238 bhp (177 kW)
  • Torque: 420 Nm
  • 0-100 km/h Acceleration: 7.3 seconds
  • Top Speed: 180 km/h (electronically limited)
  • Battery: 69 kWh lithium-ion
  • WLTP Range: 475 km

Impressive Performance Despite Single Motor

Don’t be fooled by the single motor. The XC40 Recharge still packs a punch. The electric motor delivers a healthy 238 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, propelling the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 7.3 seconds. The car boasts a top speed of 180 km/h, ensuring a satisfying driving experience.

Extended Range on a Single Charge

Volvo claims the single-motor XC40 Recharge offers a WLTP-certified range of 475 kilometers on a single charge. This makes it suitable for daily commutes and even extended weekend trips, depending on driving conditions.

Strategic Pricing Makes it Competitive

The single-motor variant is priced at ₹54.95 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a more accessible option compared to the twin-motor variant’s ₹57.90 lakh price tag. This strategic pricing positions the XC40 Recharge to compete effectively in the growing Indian electric vehicle market, offering Volvo’s signature luxury at a more enticing price point.

A Compelling Choice for Electric SUV Seekers

With its blend of affordability, decent range, and Volvo’s reputation for safety and comfort, the single-motor XC40 Recharge emerges as a compelling contender in the electric SUV segment. If you’re considering an electric vehicle and prioritize value without compromising on performance, this new Volvo offering is definitely worth a closer look
