Uber Partners with Refex Green Mobility to Deploy 1,000 Electric Vehicles by 2026
In a significant step toward sustainable urban mobility, Uber has partnered with Refex Green Mobility, a subsidiary of Refex Industries Limited, to deploy 1,000 electric four-wheelers (4Ws) by 2026. This collaboration aligns with Uber’s global ambition to provide 100% emission-free rides by 2040.
The partnership will facilitate the onboarding of electric 4Ws onto the Uber platform across key metropolitan cities, including Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. By integrating these electric vehicles (EVs) into its ride-hailing service, Uber aims to reduce its carbon footprint and encourage the adoption of sustainable transportation solutions in India.
Refex Green Mobility operates under the brand name Refex eVeelz and is dedicated to driving the transition towards clean energy in the mobility sector. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Chennai-headquartered Refex Industries Limited, the company specializes in EV fleet management and infrastructure development, playing a pivotal role in supporting Uber’s electrification strategy.
Commenting on the partnership, a spokesperson from Uber stated, “Our collaboration with Refex Green Mobility underscores our commitment to electrifying ride-sharing in India. By introducing 1,000 electric four-wheelers into our fleet, we are taking a major step toward providing cleaner, more sustainable transportation options for our riders.”
Refex Green Mobility also emphasized its dedication to sustainable mobility, with a spokesperson stating, “We are thrilled to partner with Uber in advancing the EV ecosystem in India. This initiative will not only reduce emissions but also create economic opportunities for driver-partners who transition to electric vehicles.”
India’s growing emphasis on EV adoption, supported by government incentives and a rising awareness of environmental concerns, has driven the expansion of electric mobility solutions. With this partnership, Uber and Refex Green Mobility aim to accelerate the shift towards green transportation while ensuring a seamless experience for riders and drivers alike.
The deployment of these electric vehicles marks a crucial milestone in Uber’s broader sustainability strategy. As the company continues to invest in green initiatives globally, collaborations like these will be instrumental in achieving its goal of becoming a fully emission-free mobility platform by 2040.
With the first phase of deployment expected to begin soon, Uber and Refex Green Mobility’s joint efforts are set to redefine urban transportation by making it cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally responsible.
