Tata Steel uses electric vehicles
It has partnered with a startup to deploy electric vehicles for the transportation of finished steel. It has a contract for the deployment of 27 EVs with a minimum carrying capacity of 35 tonnes of steel. The company plans to deploy 15 EVs at its Jamshedpur Plant and 12 EVs at its Sahibabad plant.
The electric vehicles to be deployed are equipped with a 275kWh Lithium-ion battery pack which comes with a cooling system with a battery management system and can be operated at ambient temperatures up to 60°C. Its battery pack can be charged with a 160 kWh charger from 0 to 100 per cent in 95 minutes. This electric vehicle (each) would decrease the GHG footprint by more than 125 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent every year.
