Simple Energy electric scooter bookings to open on August 15th

A Bengaluru-based electric vehicle startup Simple Energy is set to launch its first flagship electric scooter Simple One on this Independence Day, August 15, 2021. The bookings of the electric scooters will be opened on the same day and the deliveries will be expected to start at the end of this year.

The Simple Energy CEO and Founder said that its electric scooter will cater to larger audiences and prices are expected to be in Rs 1.1 to 1.2 lakh (ex-showroom). The Mark-2 will be launched by the startup in Bangalore and Delhi followed by a launch event in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Once launched it will compete with Ather 450X.

It has successfully managed to raise an undisclosed sum of money ( funding ) from the angel investors Vel Kanniappan, Vice President-Global Business, and Finance operations at UiPath, and four other investors who participated in this round of funding.

Recently, the company had announced that it plans to raise $15 million (over Rs 112 crore) in funding from domestic and foreign venture capital funds before the launch of its electric scooter Mark 2. The company claims that this upcoming electric scooter will be India’s most high-performance electric scooter.

The Mark 2 electric scooter features a sporty look and has an all-LED lighting setup. It comes with an instrument panel that is a 7-inch touch display with 4G connectivity.

Simple Mark 2 electric scooter is made with 85% localization and its lithium-ion battery cells are imported from Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. It provides a range of ARAI certified range of 240 km on a single charge and can make a 0-50 kph sprint time of 3.6 seconds. Its top speed is 100 km/h and is equipped with a 4.8kWh.

Suhas Rajkumar said “we are aiming to be a dominant player in the electric mobility segment. We are also developing indigenous technology in the vehicle’s powertrain, which will be the foundation to our upcoming products.”

The company is planning to deploy 60% of the funds for the manufacturing facility which will have the capacity of 50,000 vehicles production annually. 40% of the funds will be used for setting up experience centers and scaling up the workforce.
