The following are the types of batteries used in an electric vehicle:
- Lithium-ion
- Lithium Ferrous Phosphate
- Lithium titanite oxide
- VRLA (Valve regulated lead acid)
1.Lithium-ion battery pack:
Most electric vehicles are powered by the lithium-ion battery pack.it has a high energy density when compared to other types of battery.it has around 500-1,000 lifecycles which would last for around 2 to 3 years before replacing them.
2.Lithium ferrous phosphate:
It’s also called LiFePo4, it has less energy density when compared to Lithium-ion but has a higher lifecycle of 1000-2000 cycles which could last for around 4 to 5 years before replacing them.
3.Lithium titanite oxide:
It’s called LTO cells and it has both higher energy density and has a lifecycle of 6000–20000 cycles which could last up to 10 years before replacing them. Since the cost of the cells is higher, they are not used by manufacturers still.
4.VRLA (Valve regulated lead acid):
All of the cheapest are powered by these Lead-acid batteries because of their low cost. But they have less energy density and life cycle when compared to all the other batteries.

On speaking about Lead-acid batteries, they are cheaper when compared to the other type of batteries but the problem is, they are less efficient. to overcome this issue the manufacturers introduced Lithium-ion and LiFePo4 to the market. But they are of high cost, what is the reason behind this?

- Lack of skilled professionals

- No Manufacturers in India:
The reason behind this is the lack of raw materials in India. We are depending on other countries especially in china for the cell requirement. That’s the reason the cost of the batteries is too high.
- Cost and Design BMS:
BMS (Battery Management System). Batteries are the heart of electric vehicles likewise BMS is the heart of the batteries. They control the battery. The design of the BMS plays a key role in the life of a Battery pack so, when the cost of the BMS is High the cost of battery pack also goes high as the EV.
- Lack of skilled professionals:
When there are a lot of skilled professionals, the repair work becomes easy so, as the cost. Finding the correct place for repair is still a misery for the customers.
