MG Windsor EV Pro Launched: Real-World Range Tested — How Far Can It Really Go?

MG Motor India has taken another bold step in the electric mobility segment with the launch of the MG Windsor EV Pro, an electric MPV that blends practicality with long-range capability. The headline-grabber? A claimed range of 449 km, thanks to a bigger 52.9 kWh battery — all at a competitive starting price of ₹17.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

We put the Windsor EV Pro through a series of real-world driving tests to find out how close it comes to the claim — and how it compares to the standard Windsor EV.

🔧 Windsor EV Pro: What’s New?

The Pro variant builds on the standard Windsor EV’s strengths by upgrading its heart — the battery. Here’s what’s improved:

  • Battery Capacity: Up from 38.5 kWh to 52.9 kWh
  • Claimed Range: From 332 km to 449 km
  • Motor Output: Same 136 hp, 200 Nm motor
  • Price Difference: ₹1.5 lakh more than the standard variant

This positions the Windsor EV Pro as one of the longest-range electric MPVs in the sub-₹20 lakh segment.

🚗 Real-World Driving: How Far Does It Actually Go?

We drove the Windsor EV Pro across city traffic, highways, and mixed-use roads — with the AC on and no special hypermiling tactics — to simulate how most buyers would actually use the car.

City Driving (Eco+ Mode)

  • Efficiency: ~8.2–8.4 km/kWh
  • Range Achieved: 430–440 km
Perfect for city commutes, school runs, and errands, with very little range anxiety.

Mixed City + Highway (Eco Mode)

  • Efficiency: ~7.5–7.7 km/kWh
  • Range Achieved: 390–405 km
Balanced conditions saw the Windsor Pro perform admirably, making it suitable for intercity travel without a top-up.

Highway Driving (Normal Mode, 90–100 km/h)

  • Efficiency: ~6.4–6.6 km/kWh
  • Range Achieved: 330–350 km
At higher speeds, efficiency drops, but the range still remains respectable for longer hauls.

Sport Mode (Aggressive Driving)

  • Efficiency: ~5.7 km/kWh
  • Range Achieved: 300–310 km
For when you want extra power — though it comes at the cost of range.

🔌 Charging Options: Same Hardware, Bigger Battery

Despite the larger battery, charging times remain within practical limits:

  • DC Fast Charger (45 kW): 0–80% in ~55 minutes
  • AC Wall Box (11 kW): Full charge in ~6.5–7 hours
  • Standard Home Socket (3.3 kW): Overnight charging (~12–13 hours)

The Pro takes slightly longer to charge than the standard variant, but thanks to its larger capacity, you won’t need to plug in as often.

💬 Who Should Buy the Windsor EV Pro?

Choose the Windsor EV Pro if:

  • You frequently travel long distances
  • You want to reduce your charging frequency
  • You value higher range for intercity use
  • You’re planning fleet or commercial use (e.g., cab or airport shuttle)

Stick to the standard Windsor EV if:

  • Your driving is mostly local/city-based
  • Budget is a tighter concern
  • You have reliable daily access to home or workplace charging

📊 Summary: Range Showdown

Variant Battery Claimed Range Real-World Range (Mixed Use) Price (Ex-showroom)
Windsor EV 38.5 kWh 332 km 270–310 km ₹15.99 lakh
Windsor EV Pro 52.9 kWh 449 km 390–410 km ₹17.49 lakh

Verdict

The MG Windsor EV Pro delivers what it promises — long-range electric mobility without breaking the bank. It’s ideal for families, ride-share operators, and eco-conscious drivers who want room, comfort, and real-world usability. With the right driving habits, crossing 400 km on a single charge is entirely realistic.
