Interoperable fast-charging network from Hero MotoCorp and Ather Energy

EV users will be able to easily switch between Hero VIDA and Ather Grids

Two of India’s leading manufacturers in the automotive industry, Hero MotoCorp and Ather Energy, have joined forces to establish an innovative fast-charging network for electric two-wheelers in the country. This groundbreaking network is being hailed as the first of its kind in the world and aims to revolutionize the EV industry by offering interoperable charging solutions to the users of electric two-wheelers. This partnership is seen as a significant milestone in India’s journey towards electric mobility and is expected to set a benchmark for other countries to follow.

Electric Vehicle (EV) users across India can now benefit from the collaboration between Hero VIDA and Ather Energy. The partnership has resulted in a combined network of over 1,900 fast-charging points that are spread across 100 cities in the country. This collaboration will enable seamless usage of both networks for EV users, providing them with greater convenience and accessibility.

The Chief Business Officer of the Emerging Mobility Business Unit at Hero MotoCorp, Dr. Swadesh Srivastava, has stated that having the largest charging network will help provide customers with a seamless and convenient ownership experience. Through this rapidly growing network, customers will be able to use and charge their vehicles without any problems in the future due to the use of a government-approved connector standard.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has recently approved India’s first-ever indigenously developed AC and DC Combined Charging connector standard, known as Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS), for light electric vehicles.

In addition to using the “My VIDA” and Ather App to locate charging stations, customers will also be able to navigate to them. They will be able to discover only compatible locations, locate and view their nearest charging stations, and navigate to them using the interoperability.

“The collaboration between Indian original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will enable charging infrastructure to be scaled up to meet the needs of customers. By partnering with Ather Energy, consumers will have access to an extensive network of charging stations across the country, alleviating range anxiety, said Swapnil Jain, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer.

According to him, OEMs that adopt the LECCS standard will be able to connect to Ather Grid across India.
