India Energy Week 2023 spreads its wings to promote green energy; PM unveils hydrogen E-Bus

India Energy Week 2023 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangalore on 6th February.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted India Energy Week 2023 in Bangalore on 6th February. Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the event with a focus on the introduction of renewable energy sources, promoting the use of green hydrogen and the consumption of natural gas.

OIL has developed this hydrogen fuel cell-based bus as part of a start-up program (SNEH) under the Government of India’s National Hydrogen Mission and the Atmanirbhar Bharat Darshan. This electric bus is a hybrid of electric drive and fuel cells. Fuel cells use hydrogen to generate electricity to power electric motors and charge auxiliary batteries to provide backup power during acceleration and braking.

The bus is powered with the aid of using a 60 kW proton alternate membrane (PEM) fuel cell.  This can provide a minimum range of 450km on a single refill. The tank capacity of the bus is 21.9 kg at 350 bar pressure. The bus has a capacity of 32 people including the driver. They also provide wheelchair facilities to help treat all passengers equally for a comfortable and safe journey.

OIL is India’s oldest exploration and production company dedicated to India’s energy security. Oil India Limited (OIL) represents the growth and development of the Indian oil industry. The OIL Company is a leader in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas, the production of liquefied petroleum gas, and the transportation of crude oil and petroleum products. Modi has unveiled an ‘Unbottled’ uniform made from plastic bottles recovered from Indian oil. He also launched Indian Oil’s Indoor Solar Cooking System Twin-cooktop model and announced its commercial launch.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his inaugural address at India Energy Week 2023 that the budget (from 2023 to 34) has allocated 1 billion rupees for investments to boost the green hydrogen, solar energy, and road sectors.

Modi has also deployed its E20 fuel at 84 oil distributor retail outlets in 11 states and union territories, following an ethanol blend roadmap. He also announced his rally, Green Mobility, in which vehicles powered by green energy sources participate and help raise public awareness of green fuels. The first day of India Energy Week 2023 featured several exciting panel discussions and meetings with eminent experts.
