IIT Hyderabad has made an Electric three-wheeler with solar panels on its top
The Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad and ItsEV, a Japan-based electric vehicle manufacturing company are planning to launch electric vehicle, that can be recharged by installing solar panels on its top, in Indian market.
On Thursday, in the presence of Kazuo Chiba, President of ItsEV Incorporation, and Prof Surendra Martha, faculty at the Department of Chemistry at IIT-H, the three-wheeler prototype was tested within the institute premises.
The spare parts of three-wheeler auto are brought from Japan and assembled them at IIT-H. The electric auto offers 80 KM of range after three hours of recharge at 40-KMPH speed. But the research is further going on to increase the speed and battery time. Initially, the IIT-H and ItsEV company planned to launch the vehicle for internal operations of industries, campuses and other short distance places. Now they are in plans and confident of launching a commercial vehicle in a short span.
The Japanese company, ItsEV has already launched the vehicle for commercial use in Japan. However, they are doing more research to make the battery that suits the Indian temperatures as there is difference between the temperatures in Japan and India. The market price of the vehicle would be just Rs 1.2 lakh if the spare parts are manufactured in India. The researchers will disclose more information about the vehicle on November 30 during the work-shop which will be going to be conducted at IIT-H Campus.
