Ather Energy setups new factory- Royal Enfield announced electric plans

Ather Energy, a Bengaluru-based manufacturer of electric scooters will expand its production capacity to 12 times and introduce a new range of products. These new products will be more affordable than the existing models like Ather 450. The company also plans to set up a new manufacturing facility. It will expand its business to ten more cities across India by 2020.

At current, the company has its electric scooters in Bengaluru and it also provides charging stations solutions to its customers.

“We have big plans in store for the next 12-18 months. You will see us expanding our footprint by entering new markets, launching a new scooter line and increasing our production capacity. We have a new line of scooters in the works. Though the new product will be priced lower than the Ather 450, it will still be performance-oriented, intelligent and connected,” Ravneet Phokela, Chief Business Officer, Ather Energy.

These electric scooters will launch in Hyderabad first followed by Pune, Delhi and Mumbai. In that regard, the company is looking for a new facility.

At current the output capacity stands at 35,000 to 40,000 units per year but 2020 will see us expanding our production capacity by 12-fold with the opening of a new manufacturing plant to boost the output by up to 5 lakh units said Phokela. 

Royal Enfield working on electric motorcycles

Royal Enfield, an Indian motorcycle manufacturing brand is also known as the oldest global motorcycle brand. The company will work on completely new range products and is likely to include electric motorcycles too said CEO Vinod Dasari.

“Just because there was a downturn, we did not cut down on our capex. I don’t think we will spend any more on any large (facility). Most of our capex will go into capability building, new products, electric and other stuff. And it will go into many small assembly plants around the world,” Dasari told.
