The government is working on an electric highway between New Delhi and Mumbai at a cost of about Rs 1 lakh crore and has already awarded 60% of the contract said union minister for road transport and highways, Govt is working on an electric highway of Delhi-Mumbai.

“It will be a 1,300 km, 12-lane green highway, and our target is to complete it before January 26, 2024,” he said.

The highway passes by the economically backward areas of Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra which will help the Centre to save Rs 16,000 crore on land acquisition.

A 10 km electric highway along the Delhi-Mumbai expressway will be piloted by the Gadakri ministry in collaboration with the heavy industries department, he said in a parliament in the month of July. The infrastructure will include the overhead cables and substations for the trial run.




Globally 3 projects of electric highway 

Globally there are three projects of electric highways demonstrated globally which includes a trial run on the A5 motor highway outside Frankfurt in May.
We are thinking of making it an e-highway and are discussing with companies who have the technology in Germany, USA, Sweden for electric doubledecker bus and the electric truck he said.
Mr Gadkari also said that it is mulling more measured to encourage electric vehicles which include a policy to have charging stations for buses and for cars on highways near petrol stations.



The pilot project will cost INR 200 cr

Earlier, it was said, this pilot project will cost INR 200 cr as a truck manufacturer will be used to produce that prototypes. The trucks of 80 tonnes will be deployed and an electric cable to draw power from the overhead cable network.

There will be two tracks and trucks with containers can run at 100kmph. The trucks run on the electricity for 20 km and battery charges where there are no stretches overhead wires to charge.

Gadkari says that again it can be charged after some km, these can tap the overhead wire simultaneously and gets charged again.
