500 electric buses operating in ten cities
Under a pilot project, there are about 500 electric buses currently running in ten cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, and Pune.
“Though awareness is increased there is still a lack of adequate infrastructure for these vehicles. A large number of charging stations need to be built across the country so that these buses can be charged, especially during night hours,” Patwardhan said.
e-bus can be driven up to 150 km
The BOCI president says, it is challenging to charge the e-buses with current technology and after a full charge, the e-bus can be driven up to 150 km only.
This is the main reason that bus operators are forced to use diesel. He hopes for the basic infrastructure to be improved by 2030.
